Suffixes
(Under construction)
This page is intended to describe how different suffixes are annotaed in the database.
SUffixes are annotated in several columnsthat appear in the verbs. Specifically, we mark the presence of an affix with a 1 and we in general separate three types of affixes/phenomena:
- Verbal affixes
- Potential non-verbal affixes (these are also annotated in the column Root (link na root))
- Affix-like and other
To annotate these items we first created a list of candidates for each type. In what follows we give the lists of all three types of affixes for BCS and Slovenian separately, as the two have different affixes.
Also relevant for this section is the column Unsuffixed which reflects a summary of all this annotation - verbs that have no suffix of any of the abovementioned kind are marked with a 1, verbs that have either a verbal affix, a potential non-verbal affix or an affix-like element get a 0.
Column Simplex is relevant too. This column marks with 1 verbs that do not have any of the abovementioned affixes or a prefix and are not compounds (to which we return below). If the verb has either a prefix or any type of an affix, or is a compound, it is marked with a 0.
Verbal affixes
Verbal affixes are annotated in two ways. In column Verbal affix (y/n) (V BHS drugo ime?) it is simply shown if a verb has a verbal affix (1) or does not have a verbal affix (0). It is then specified which verbal affix the verb has in one of the following columns (with 1 if the verb has that affix), where each of the columns refers to s specific affix. We give the lists of verbal affixes below. Note that the list for Slovenian and BHS are slightly different.
